WordCamp Jacksonville will bring together our WordPress community of business owners, developers, marketers, designers, content strategists, bloggers, and educators to share and discuss all things WordPress. You can share your experience and knowledge with others in the community by applying to speak today!

Who we are looking for

WordCamp Jacksonville is committed to making our event as inclusive as possible. We want to showcase talent available within our community, the US, and the world.

Whether you have never spoken before or you have spoken at WordCamps across the country, if you have experience that you want to share, then we encourage you to submit a topic. Even if you are from outside the WordPress community, if you have a topic you feel would benefit attendees, we welcome you to submit your ideas.

All speakers are expected to:

  1. Be professional and courteous to each other and all attendees
  2. Adhere to the WordCamp Code of Conduct
  3. Agree to the WordCamp Speaker Agreement
  4. Agree to the A/V release form

About the process

After the call for speakers closes, all selections and submissions are collectively reviewed by our organizers. Please note that, unfortunately, we cannot accept all submissions. You will receive an email as soon as possible notifying you whether or not your topic was selected.

Speakers will be provided with a projector and a screen for their presentation (size depends on the room). Speakers should bring any equipment they need to connect to the projector’s VGA port. It is also suggested that you reduce your dependency on the in-house internet connection as much as possible.

If selected, you will receive:

  1. Full conference pass
  2. Lunch, swag, and all other items included in regular conference attendance
  3. Access to speaker prep room

About your session

If selected, you will have between 30 to 45 minutes (depending on what our final timeline is) for your session. We will let you know the exact length of the session at least 6 weeks prior to the event. This time can be used for a variety of sessions including:

  • Presentations
  • Workshops
  • Panels
  • Any other idea you have!

We welcome unique ideas, so feel free to pitch your craziest. If you are unsure, feel free to reach out to us privately at jacksonville@wordcamp.org!

What we are looking for

We will consider all topics that are submitted. For this year, we are placing a higher priority of the following topics:

    1. Design: What makes a good design and how to design it?
      • Examples include: Accessibility, UI/UX, customizing themes, page builders, case studies
    2. Intro to Development: First steps to developing WordPress sites, themes, and plugins
      • Examples include: Best practices, speed optimization, custom post types & fields
    3. Advanced Development: Pushing WordPress past its limits
      • Examples include: Gutenberg, WordPress frameworks, WordPress API, philosophy & methods

We are also still accepting talks for the following:

  • WordPress Basics: Topics for those who are just getting started.
    • Examples include: Hosting, security for Beginners, how to choose WP themes & plugins
  • Content: Once a site is created, the next step is content and marketing!
    • Examples include: SEO, what makes a good blog, social media marketing, what makes quality content
  • Business: How do you start and manage a business?
    • Examples include: Monetizing blogs, freelancing best practices, making money with WordPress, contracts
  • Big ideas: Want to discuss “bigger” topics? We’d love to have you!
    • Examples include: Diversity, open source collaboration, digital activism, privacy
